Protagonist of the magnificent classical tradition of architecture, from ancient Roman times to this day, innumerable buildings have been built with manually moulded terracotta tiles.
At Sannini, this prestigious and now rare artisan procedure is effected by skilled workmen who model the clay with their bare hands using single wooden moulds obtained from splendid originals of the 17th century. There is no other force or energy, if not that of man, to drive the raw material into the moulds. Following drying, the material is extracted and brick by brick the edges are hand-trimmed with a knife.
Loaded again by hand onto trolleys the clay remains in the kiln for four days in a direct flame, awaiting complete firing.
The rough surface, the opaque colour which absorbs the light and throws out unmistakable reflections and tones, and the irregularities make each element a unique and unrepeatable exemplar.
It is mounted according to the traditional system with 5 mm joints.
For inside use to be treated after installation. On request also honed version available.
Due to its physical-technical characteristics, “Fatto a Mano” can be installed in interiors or exteriors. Laying in freezing areas is allowed if the material is correctly installed and does not undergo any other surface treatment.
For inside use the material requires a protective treatment in order to preserve the material’s original aesthetic and physical characteristics and to maintain the tiles unaltered over the years.
Upon request The Hand Made Sannini treated with Flashsystem l’an exclusive method of treatment carried out in the factory by Sannini. It entails a complete cycle of working, using avantgarde techniques and products studied to preserve the terracotta’s natural qualities as a sign of respect to the environment and its ecosystem. All materials used for the treatment of Flash are non-toxic, and being water-based, do not contain solvents. Essential feature of Flashsystem is its in-depth protection which guarantees resistance to stains, damp rings and efflorescences, although the original transpiring nature of the material is maintained. As a consequence, the cladding with these ready-to-use products presents itself with the colour and aspect of terracotta treated traditionally on site with acids and waxing. Such operations become superfluous since Flash products do not alter when laid if the mounting instructions are followed correctly.
